Gianni Ruffi

The artist Gianni Ruffi was born in Florence in 1938. Since the early 1960s, Ruffi has been making objects with a strong conceptual connotation, utilizing materials that come from traditional Tuscan everyday culture. He approaches the great tradition of European pop art, focusing his research on common objects whose nature and function are distorted by a different meaning. Often his artistic vein is communicated through the use of language or irony and play.
Ruffi’s painting and sculpture works can be found among the best-known collections and museums in Italy and abroad, such as the Selected Artists Gallery in New York (1967) and the solo exhibition at the Staatsgalerie Moderner Kunst in Munich (1967), while his environmental installations are often inserted into historical urban contexts with which they intertwine highly suggestive relationships.
