RADICAL ROOMS, MANKOVSKY GALLERY, STOCKHOLM, 2026

Curated by Roland-Philippe Kretzschmar, Mankovsky Gallery hosts Gufram in the exhibition Radical Rooms. This operation, which brings together contemporary art and radical design, is presented with this curatorial statement: "Nobody argues with a room. You walk into one and become the version of yourself it settled on before you arrived, because the chair has already fixed the angle of your spine and quietly capped how long the conversation can run, the sofa has ruled on how close two people may sit, and the shelves have worked out which of your possessions have earned the right to be looked at. We call the whole arrangement taste, though it behaves a great deal more like instruction, and it holds precisely because it is issued in the one room we still agree to call private and therefore exempt from examination. Gufram and Memphis argued with the room anyway, and what interests me is that they did it by being funny, which on the available evidence is the only method that has ever properly worked. Gufram began in Turin in 1966 [...]. Memphis began fourteen years later around a dinner table in Milan [...]. Both were laughed at, and both have outlasted very nearly everything that was taken seriously at the time."
