GUFRAM x RAY – FIORE DI CACTUS®

At Design Miami, RAY and Gufram are pleased to announce a collaborative edition of Gufram's iconic CACTUS® (designed in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello), edited by Francesco Vezzoli. Titled Fiore di Cactus® (Cactus Flower), the sculpture was conceived in honor of RAY’s third residential development opening in Phoenix, Arizona, in early 2026, and is one of the brand’s first ventures into collectible design. Fiore di Cactus® will be revealed on December 3, 2025, during the 20th anniversary edition of Design Miami, which celebrates the curatorial theme Make. Believe., intended to highlight the design avant-garde across the ages and honor visionaries of the past, present, and future.

Fiore di Cactus® draws its title from the film starring Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman, and Goldie Hawn, providing Vezzoli with a playful framework to reimagine Gufram’s iconic CACTUS® coat rack. Inspired by the glossy, romantic roses featured in Vezzoli’s 2004 reality show–influenced work Comizi di non amore, these flowers are transformed into three-dimensional embellishments atop Gufram’s classic design through a meticulous conceptual embroidery process. Vezzoli was selected by the historic design brand for his unique ability to reinterpret the "pop" aesthetic in a refi ned yet non-snobbish eye, as well as for his appreciation for the power that architecture and design have on our lived experience. His vision reflects the enduring principles of Radical Design, a movement Gufram pioneered, which intentionally blurs the boundaries between art, design, and everyday life.

Fiore di Cactus® represents an exclusive collaboration that extends beyond Vezzoli's invaluable artistic contribution: it’s the physical product of the synergy among the artist, Gufram and RAY, an American multi-family real estate brand that brings together considered architecture, a curated fine art collection of emerging and established talents, and a full calendar of programming designed with the same level of care that you’d expect from a hospitality company. Within this visionary framework, Gufram supplies its iconic Cactus® with Vezzoli’s artistic touch for the newly constructed Ray Phoenix. Produced as a Special Edition of only 30 pieces, Fiore di Cactus® underscores the concept of the artwork as a design multiple, destined for spaces that celebrate the intersection of avant-garde creativity and everyday living.
