  • On the occasion of Frieze London, Gufram joins Ordovas for the exhibition “Marilyn, Flowers, Lips, Gun, Mirror, Cactus”. Until 16 December 2017, the London gallery based in Savile Row is hosting an exhibition entirely dedicated to Pop Art: together with works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Tom Wesselmann, the Radiant Cactus created specifically for the occasion is presented as a preview, a limited edition of Gufram's iconic Cactus with a new photoluminescent finish. This particular paint charges the work with light, making it shine in the dark.
The Cactus, designed by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello in 1972, is one of the most iconic pieces in the Gufram catalogue; functional sculpture on display in the most prestigious art and design museums in the world, is the subject of countless interpretations, free and often equivocal. Made of flexible polyurethane, the Cactus is soft and thornless. Coat stand with four cantilevered arms, it is more or less as tall as a person, and looks like an ironic totem that embodies the grit, imagination and humor of Seventies design. Capable of attracting all the attention, it frees itself from functionalism at all costs because it can fulfill its function or be used as a purely decorative element.
