Reflections: Dino Gavina, l’arte, il design, GNAM, Roma, 2021
Rome, Italy, 2021
Reflections. Dino Gavina, art and design investigates the emblematic figure of Dino Gavina, an enlightened and subversive entrepreneur - as he loved to define himself - in Italy in the second half of the 20th century. The exhibition focuses on the relationship between art and industrial production which, in Dino Gavina's thinking, can and must walk together to change the world.
Starting from this intuition, the exhibition itinerary combines vintage and contemporary design objects with masterpieces created by artists and designers with whom Gavina has been able to weave human and professional relationships. Among the best-known signatures are those of Lucio Fontana, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Marcel Breuer, Carlo and Tobia Scarpa, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Kazuhide Takahama, Enzo Mari, Sebastian Matta, Alan Irvine, Novello Finotti, Giacomo Balla, André Masson, René Magritte, Jackson Pollock, Li Yuen Chia.
Particular attention is dedicated to the artists who had family, friendly and working ties with Gavina, starting from his wife, the verbo-visual artist Greta Schödl, to the kinetic artists of the Duchamp Center such as Grazia Varisco, Marina Apollonio and Martha Boto, passing from her friend Marina Abramović to end with those directly involved in the production of furnishing objects, such as Meret Oppenheimn and Marion Baruch. The latter, in particular, is present in the exhibition with the unique and irreverent RON RON created for Gufram.
