SESS

  • SESS, an enigmatic seat designed by Nani Prina, came to life in 1968-69. Nani Prina formulated it with an intrinsic mystery: is it a lounge chair or a chaise longue? What looks like a word game simply boosts the charisma of this domestic sculpture.

History

“Intelligent, brilliant and… bizarre: Nani definitely spent his years with a pencil always in his hand, approaching different contexts in more or less important works, which for him were never seen as minor, because something always stimulated his imagination.” These words come from the notes of the family of Nani Prina, the versatile architect, journalist, artist and designer, who stood out for the truly original results achieved by disrupting the balance between form and function.

Like a sinuous spiral, SESS creates undulated forms that generate its inimitable silhouette, in line with the finest creations of Gufram. The refinement of the result also stems from the care with which the brand selects the pieces to insert in its catalogue: the reissuing of timeless projects becomes a strong point. The Gufram workshop, a place of exceptional expertise, once again becomes a hotbed of “visual poetry,” combining traditional workmanship of materials with more advanced techniques. Only in this way is it possible to do justice to complex, perfectly honed projects like SESS, reaching an even higher level of quality and comfort.

SESS, with its almost hypnotic charm, is a perfect choice for those who live in elegant surroundings, but do not want to do without the radical originality typical of Gufram. The particular character of this seating solution lies in its open challenge to all the rules of classic functional design, though the piece clearly conserves the qualities of aplomb and refinement legitimately demanded in one’s own home, in dreams or reality. The fabrics utilized to cover SESS are soft and comfortable, making the product an ideal addition even to a traditional interior, though without going unnoticed. This project by Nani Prina thus remains a vivid reflection of the revolutionary epoch of 1968, ready to enter traditional homes today while bringing a touch of transgression and extraordinary vitality.
